Since my last report at the end of 2019, the world has been turned upside down yet we have made good progress towards our goal of hosting the 2023 Ski Championships. We are fortunate that our event is far enough in the future that we can be hopeful that success in finding a vaccine and treatment of COVID19 will make it possible to host a major international event again. We are liaising closely with the FIS and National Sport Organizations and are encouraged that they want us to continue on our path to hosting.
In February, I had the good fortune to attend the 2020 Nordic Junior/U23 Cross Country World Ski Championships in Oberwiesenthal, Germany as a guest of the Local Organizing Committee. It was an excellent opportunity to experience first-hand the excitement and massive logistics of such an international event. I was able to meet with key FIS officials, coaches, athletes, broadcasters and LOC leads.

We continue to gain formal support of key partners including Canadian Snowsports Association, Whistler Sport Legacies, Nordic Combined Ski Canada and Ski Jumping Canada. As well, our first corporate sponsor – Seaspan Corporation – has provided its commitment to support our event. In Q2 we will be making formal grant applications at the provincial and federal levels.
