I am pleased to report that the Organizing Committee has been very productive in its first month of engagement. Firstly, I would like to thank the team for taking on this formidable assignment as we are all volunteering our time to make this important event happen. To ensure we are all in alignment, we focused on agreeing on our Mission Statement which is as follows:
“To host a dynamic, inclusive FIS World Junior/U23 Nordic Ski Championships at Whistler Olympic Park that builds on the legacy of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and inspires young athletes to achieve excellence while reintroducing the world to the dramatic beauty of the Sea-to-Sky Corridor”
Our outreach has included meeting the Mayors of Squamish and Whistler, the CEO of Destination BC, Provincial, Federal and First Nations representatives and the organizers of the 2019 International Paralympic Nordic World Championships held in Prince George.
Our sport and venue experts have been reviewing the requirements to meet the current FIS standards to help refine our budgeting.
We have registered our website URL – www.wjc2023.ca – which will be activated in late January.
We are looking forward to good progress in 2020.
